"Bedtime for Frances" is an episode of the HDPS-animated series Frances. The episode of based on the classic Russel Hoban storybook of the same name.
Episode description[]
When it's bedtime for young Frances, everyone is ready but her. At 7:00pm Frances is wide awake and bursting with excitement. She tries every delay tactic she can muster--from demanding extra hugs and kisses to volleying a series of urgent last-minute questions ("May I sleep with my teddy bear?" "May I have my door open?").
Differences from the Book[]
- Gloria is featured in the episode, but she's unseen in the book.
- In the book, Frances has a glass of milk, but this part is not featured in the episode.
- Father Badger carries Frances to her room as a piggyback ride in the book, but in the episode Father Badger (who is pretending to be the hungry elephant) chases Frances (who is pretending to be a peanut) to her room.
- In the book, Frances is in her bed when singing her alphabet song, but in the episode she is walking around her room when singing her alphabet song.
- Frances has her flashlight in the episode, but not the book.
- In the book, the giant Frances is imagining is actually a bathrobe, but in the episode, the giant Frances is imagining is actually a pile of dirty laundry.
- In the book, Frances is offered a piece of cake, but in the episode, she's only offered a teeny tiny bite of the cake.
- In the book, Father says he has to go to his office at 9:00 every morning. In the episode, he says he has to take photographs at 9:00 the next morning.
- In the book, Frances gets scared by the bumping and thumping noise by a moth, but in the episode, the last time she has trouble sleeping was the wind blowing the curtains.
- The book ends with Frances growing too sleepy to get out of bed in the morning, but in the episode, she is wide awake and her family is proud of her for sleeping by herself.
